The Beastie Boys revealed today that Adam Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his parotid gland. The trio will postpone all tour dates and the release of its upcoming album, 'Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1,' as Yauch undergoes treatment.Sitting alongside member Adam Horovitz, Yauch made the announcement in a video clip on the group's official Web site. Yauch said that for the past two months he'd been feeling a lump in his throat like he had a cold and consulted doctors two weeks ago. After undergoing tests, they found the tumor in his parotid gland, a salivary gland, as well as its lymph node, and he'll be undergoing surgery next week. Fortunately, Yauch says they caught the cancer early, it hasn't spread and should be easily treatable. He also notes that the surgery and treatment won't affect his vocal cords.
Yauch goes on to apologize to all their fans and saysn "we'll be back doing doing this soon." In typical Beastie fashion, the two of them then go on to make a joke out of the situation, noting that Horovitz was home watching TV when he was called to the studio for the news. He even says to Yauch, "Thank you for the opportunity" to have the time to work on his solo stuff, saying it's inspired by Kenny Rogers. The band was scheduled to perform at All Points West on Friday, July 31, and the album was set to be released Sept. 15. Check out the entire video statement below.

I had a tumor in my Parotid gland. Luckily it wasn't cancer, but it was a hell of a recovery. 5 months later i'm still recovery. Good luck and godspeed.

I have been fighting acenic cellm carsonoma of the parotid for almost thirty years. I am 52. It started out benign. It has gone into my lungs and I am on Tomaxsofen,a breast cancer medication. Make sure you get checked regularly and if the tumor comes back get to a ear, nose and throat specialist. My doctor is is Dr. Roger Cohen at Fox Chase Cancer Hopital in Philadelphia, Pa. He is the only doctor I found that knows the most about this type of cancer.

Well, if they said it right, then it isn't in one place but two. I hope they said it wrong. I hope that all goes well with the surgery(ies) and treatments that follow and wish him a full recovery in due time.

You knew out of all the good that the Beastie Boys have done and specially MCA that you would have some stupid ass being negative.

Please, grow up. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean he deserves to be sick.
...and no. They weren't our first "wiggers".

The Beastie Boys have always been one of my favs because of their awesome rapping, and fun disposition. I really hope to see more of them for many more years to come, or at the very least know that Adam is living a healthy, cancer free life. By the way, the fact that they're Jewish, rich, white, etc, doesn't detract from their talent and contribution to music. Diversity makes the world a cool place. This is coming from a "brown girl."

You sound like the typical prejudiced law 'enforcement' officer. You spent your high school years bullying the smart kids and anyone who was a little bit different instead of doing your work. Now bullying other people is the only thing your tiny brain has learned how to do. Your teachers passed you just to get you out of their class rooms. It is alright to get D's and F's because you're a bad-@ss. However, most people like you become @ssholes because you are trying to cover up the fact that you would have been getting D's and F's even if you had tried your hardest. The comment you posted does not make you look 'cool'. It just makes you look stupid.

2 months what was he waiting for?
Kierstenat 7-20-2009
WTH are you talking about two months? Unless I missed something, it said two weeks and from first hand knowledge the first course of treatment is a two week course of antibiotic to rule out infection followed by aspiration or excision and radiographic imaging to determine stage, prognosis and treatment protocol.
